Is the electric truck a novelty or already fully operational?

An electric ship is active on the river Rhine. Electric trucks are under development and some are already driving. When can we expect electric trucks fully operational?

Since a few weeks a test of an electric truck is running in the Netherlands. (Both articles in Dutch). A few transportation companies share the truck between them and test it out. Next to LNG this is a new alternative to diesel trucks. Most likely a long way from being fully operational, but you have to start once. More articles on electric trucks you can find here.
